Location
University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia
Audience
Cardiothoracic Surgeons
Length
Two days
Description
The symposium will highlight the intricacies of many areas of thoracic aortic surgery.
The University of Pennsylvania is one of the leading institutions in the country performing ascending and thoracic aortic surgery, with over 400 of these various procedures performed each year.
The overall two day program will encompass a dinner lecture series by our distinguished faculty followed by live, interactive operations the next day that will feature three to five of the listed surgical cases.
Objectives
- Mechanical prosthesis conduit graft-Carbomedics Carbo-Seal® Valsalva-with aortic arch reconstruction utilizing retrograde cerebral perfusion or antegrade cerebral perfusion
- "David V" re-implantation, aortic valve sparing and root surgery
- Aortic root reconstruction with a "bio-valsalva" ascending aortic prosthesis utilizing a Mitroflow® Aortic Pericardial Heart Valve
- Thoracic endovascular aortic repair ("TEVAR") for distal aortic pathology
- Thoracic abdominal aortic aneurysm repair with neurological monitoring and CFS drainage
- Complex circulation management strategies with aortic arch aneurysm highlighting decision making regarding the use of antegrade cerebral perfusion versus retrograde cerebral perfusion
- Redo complex proximal thoracic aortic reconstruction with arch procedure
- Hybrid aortic arch aneurysm (on or off cardiopulmonary bypass) with antegrade "TEVAR" application
- Total proximal thoracic aortic reconstruction in bicuspid aortic valve syndrome with or without adjunctive mitral valve repair
